A-Listed Georgian Townhouse
gloss was commissioned by Edinburgh-based Helen Lucas Architects to renovate an A-Listed Georgian townhouse in a conservation area. The property, spanning three storeys, had been previously divided into two separate homes, resulting in a fragmented layout. gloss’s sensitive approach reunited the spaces, restoring the home’s original grandeur while seamlessly integrating contemporary living elements.
Period features such as cornicing, pedestal door decorations, and the pencheck stone stair were carefully conserved, while modern updates—including energy-efficient double glazing and insulation—were introduced to improve sustainability. A contemporary stone garden room was added, replacing a dated conservatory and opening up the home to the landscaped rear garden, with triple-glazed openings and a rooflight to flood the space with natural light.
